HEART DISEASE?
Sorry no proof. Recent studies show no advantages to using fish oil at this time. Is it too early to take it off of our recommended supplement list? Don’t know. Stay tuned......
INFLAMMATORY ARTHRITIS?
Fish oil may help symptoms at first but does not alter the natural progression of the disease. These diseases (Rheumatoid Arthritis) must be cared for by a rheumatologist.
INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE?
Yes and no! Fish oil may help Ulcerative Colitis but studies show show no benefits with Crohn’s Disease. Once again, all patients with these diseases should be under the care of a gastroentologist no matter whether fish oil helps or not.
BREAST CANCER?
Some people will have a decreased risk of certain types of breast cancer
PROSTATE CANCER?
Probably not, although fish consumption has been associated with a decreased risk of cancer
MACULAR DEGENERATION?
Patients who consume fatty fish like tuna or salmon do see a decreased incidence of macular degeneration. Studies so far have not shown the same benefits with fish oil supplements.
ALZHEIMER”S DISEASE?
No! But people who took fish oil did show an improvement in cognitive function over the age of 65.
STRENGTH TRAINING?
This one is interesting. Women who took fish oil WITH strength training improved much better after 12 weeks then women who underwent strength training without fish oil. Sorry ladies: fish oil by itself had no benefits.
MIGRAINES?
No.
PSORIASIS?
No
INFERTILITY?
No
