Stroke Prevention: Surgery vs MedicinePosted by drmishner in stroke prevention , stents , statins , antiplatelet therapy , angioplasty |

A study from the New England Journal of Medicine (Sept 2011) showed that medical therapy was superior to surgery in preventing a second (recurrent) stroke.
Surgery: angioplasty and stents.
Medicine: antiplatelet therapy (aspirin), statins(Crestor) and blood pressure control.
There are many options when it comes to treating high blood pressure, high cholesterol and platelet modifiers.
When diet and exercise are not enough, medical therapy is a safe and effective option.
Please be aware that stroke prevention HAS been shown with STATINS (Lipitor, Crestor, etc) and NOT herbal supplements.
Kaizen is all about lifestyle changes and prevention.
